There's Music in the Coal Mine.
[page 96.]
Characters and objects represented. The miners, mine, and cage.
First Verse.
The mine can be represented by the ring, or square of children. Within this ring stand one or two rows of miners going through the motions of strikĀing with pickaxes upon the wall.
Second Verse. Two or four children with hands joined and lifted high form the cage, or bucket at one end of mine. The cage is filled with miners who jump from the cage as the second verse begins, and joining the row of miners in mine, sway their pickaxes to and fro the same as their comrades.
"Little Lambkins, Have You Any Wool?"
[Page 98.]
Characters and objects represented. Lambkins, farmer," shearers, barn, meadow, and brook.
First Verse.
The lambkins frisk about in the meadow which is the centre of ring. The farmer comes and asks for wool while driving the lambs together getting them ready to start for the brook. As the lambkins reply the}' frisk down to the brook, which is at one end of the ring, or somewhere near. The brook is formed by two or more children, who kneel or stand in two rows and face one another, to represent the trees growing on the edge of brook. The children sway their arms over the space between them for the swaying boughs of trees. The lambs run into the open space between the children and stand still while the farmer goes through the motions of washing them clean in the water.
